Interesting medical update!!!

We went for the Craniofacial/Palate Team and International Adoption appointments this week at MUSC in Charleston SC. The teams were both great! We found out Keaton already had his palate repair in China which is why the remaining hole for the hard palate was so small. This will not be repaired until he grows and develops over the next few years! YEAH!!!! We got no record of this surgery, but suspected something had been done ourselves with no proof! The MD's confirmed it and no extensive surgery required at this time.

He does have some kind of issue with his hearing as a result of his Audiology test. There is alot of wax and possibly fluid behind his ear drum which is the probably and HOPEFULLY the cause. He will have tubes placed in his ears, wax removal and another audiology test in a few weeks while under anesthesia to determine what exactly is going on there! We need prayers it is very minor. Keaton does not seem to have any issues hearing us , but the concern is hearing certain tones that effect speech development. Tubes are placed in most or many palate patients, and it is a simple and easy procedure.

The overall evaluation of Keaton was great! He is developmentally on target , and fine motor skills are very good. We are so greatful he does not have any major surgery needs for a few years. We just have to see how he grows and develops before the next surgeries in life he may require will be determined! I hope and pray they will be minor and by the time he needs anything the advancements in technology will make them easy and less invasive.

  1. What wonderful news! Our daughter had many ear infections and tubes made all the difference in the world. I will be remembering Keaton in my prayers as he has this procedure done.
The comment you left me about him saying prayers is just precious. Be sure you write down his first prayer. It is a very treasured moment.

  2. Great news that he won't need surgery! That's awesome! We are still waiting for our appointment to get Leah's heart checked out. We just got the documents back last week from China that were translated. I suspect she's got some hearing issues too but waiting to hear back from our audiologist to get her in. God's time, I guess. I'm just so glad you are all doing well. Leah gets very excited when she sees Keaton's pictures! So cute!

  3. Thanks to both Rebekah and Jodi! We are also going to get him circumsized during the tubes while he is asleep. I do not want any regrets later when he has an issue with possible infections etc. that would make doing it later most painful. I felt it would be best to just get it over with and move on while it will heal fast at his age.
